Making Progress

With the passing of Lucky I have discovered new ways to occupy my time. I share more quality time with Erika by going for walks, baking things, watching afternoon movies, etc.. I even go shopping with her. That's a big deal since I have never shopped with her since we got married. Going into a supermarket, I felt like a little kid experiencing Disneyland for the first time. Good grief, I've led a very sheltered life over the years! I'm still mourning over Lucky and I suspect that will last for some time. I can, however, try to live a normal happy life remembering the great times that we had together. In an effort to make my life normal again, I have decided to continue with my glasswork.

I've often found myself immersed in a world of creativity, peace and calm while doing glasswork. I forget all of my problems and concentrate on the task of making art. This has proven to be therapeutic also. Well to make a long story short...the glass has been purchased for the four panel sunflower mural. The project consists mostly of opalescent glass from various manufacturers. This is a style change for me as this mural requires color shading which is easier (for me) if the glass is opal. However, more colors are required to get the illusion of distance and shading. For example, I purchased six shades of each primary color. That's a lot of glass! The mural can be viewed from either side using direct as well as reflective light.

The framing for the panels is also complete. One of the four panels is almost complete except for soldering. Right now the weather is hot and humid and not a good environment for doing glasswork. Staying busy by doing other things is easy for me. I'm staring at a honey-do-list that would make most spouses run and hide. As progress continues I'll try to keep these posts updated. Please stay tuned...
